"Haryana Political Turmoil: Speculation Rife as JJP MLAs Skip Meeting Amid BJP-JJP Rift"

top-news

In a dramatic turn of events, only four Jannayak Janta Party (JJP) MLAs attended a crucial meeting convened by party chief Dushyant Chautala at his farmhouse in Delhi today, igniting speculation of a potential defection to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) amid the ongoing political crisis in Haryana. The rift between the BJP and the JJP deepened as seat-sharing disagreements derailed their alliance, prompting the resignation of Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar and his Cabinet.

Sources suggest that five JJP MLAs, purportedly led by Jogi Ram Sihag, Ram Kumar Gautam, Ishwar Singh, Ramniwas, and Devinder Babli, are allegedly in talks with the BJP to cross over, intensifying the political turmoil gripping the state. These MLAs, who formed a group, skipped the meeting convened by Dushyant Chautala, raising eyebrows and fueling speculation of behind-the-scenes negotiations.

While the details of the alleged horse-trading remain unconfirmed, reports indicate that the BJP has staked claim to form the next government in Haryana, signaling a proactive stance amid the unfolding political drama. Nayab Saini, BJP MP from Kurukshetra, has emerged as the frontrunner to assume the chief ministerial mantle, succeeding Manohar Lal Khattar in the wake of the BJP-JJP split.

The crisis unfolded as Manohar Lal Khattar tendered his resignation as Haryana chief minister following the breakdown of the BJP-JJP alliance over disagreements regarding seat-sharing for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections 2024. The JJP, which sought to contest on two seats, clashed with the BJP's reluctance to relinquish more than one seat, precipitating the rupture between the erstwhile allies.

The BJP-JJP coalition, forged after the 2019 Assembly elections to secure a majority, unraveled amidst mounting tensions, with the JJP led by Deputy CM Dushyant Chautala holding 10 MLAs in the Haryana Assembly. In the wake of Khattar's resignation, Nayab Saini and a new Cabinet are poised to be sworn in at an oath-taking ceremony later in the day, signaling a new chapter in Haryana's tumultuous political landscape.
